USEFUL LINKS
The internet provides a wealth of assistance to the prospective quiz master and I have tried here to list just a few of the links that I have found useful. I have split them into two sections, the first dealing with tools that I use to make the quizzes and secondly those that assist in compiling and checking quiz questions.
TOOLS FOR THE QUIZ MASTER
There are basically two that I use all the time.
-
OPEN OFFICE - This is open source software that contains word processing, spreadsheets, presentations and databases. I use this to write all my quizzes, make the answer sheets and do the scoring, many of my picture rounds are also compiled using this package. It available for download here :- http://download.openoffice.org/
-
AUDACITY - I've mentioned this in the Music Round section, it's invaluable for putting together all sorts of audio rounds.Again it's open source and available here :- http://audacity.sourceforge.net/
SITES FOR SETTING AND CHECKING ANSWERS
- WIKIPEDIA - You can get all the answers you need from just this one site, just don't count on them always being correct. It's a good site to quickly check an answer but always use an additional source.Available here:-http://www.wikipedia.org/ or just by googling
- THE CIA WORLD FACT BOOK - This is apparently updated twice a week and should therefore be completely reliable , if you can trust the CIA! Great for geography and related topics. Here :-https://www.cia.gov/library/publications/the-world-factbook
- ABOUT.COM - I've used this page for capital cities but the rest of the site looks good also. http://geography.about.com/
- IMDb - The Internet Movie Database does exactly what it says on the tin, a great source for all your movie information.http://www.imdb.com/
- everyHit.Com - The definitive guide to all the UK charts , similar examples exist for the USA and other parts of the world.http://www.everyhit.com/
- OTHER QUIZ SITES - I perhaps shouldn't be directing you away from my site but these two are decent sites for questions. http://www.pubquizhelp.com/index.html and http://www.quiz-zone.co.uk/
- ANAGRAMS - A great little site for making up anagrams http://www.anagramgenius.com/server.html
If you have any others let me know.
